30th march 2017 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers

The Spring term has been a very full one, with lots of interesting and exciting events happening and children producing a high standard of work.

A recent survey of the children’s views showed that they valued the learning activities that are offered to them and that these help them to improve their understanding and standard of work.  The survey also showed how much the children have appreciated the Jigsaw PSHE programme we have offered and how it is helping them to think more deeply about social situations and the impact of actions.

I would like to thank all the parents that came to parent consultation evenings last week.  It really is so important to your child and their progress.  Thank you also to the parents that signed up for more information about specific topics.  These have been noted and we will work to address all of these over the summer term.

You will be pleased to hear that The Ryde School Ramble raised £1076.75.  This money will be shared equally between the two charities nominated by the School Council, which are Water Aid and Herts Young Homeless.  I am sure they will appreciate your contributions.

We had a visit on Monday of this week from our SEN advisor.  She spent her time with our Senco, Mrs Wall and myself going through the school’s SEN policies, procedures and provision.  She was very complimentary about the Special Educational Needs at The Ryde School and thought our practice was at least good and with areas of outstanding practice.  As with all advisor visits, some areas of improvement were suggested, and these will be addressed over the next half term.  Most of the advice given was to move our good practice to outstanding.

We have tried to improve the front of the school by planting a living willow fence.  The children in Class 3 helped to do this and the withies cut from the living willow tunnel were used to make this.  It is hoped that the grass will be more protected and it is a planting opportunity for another class to plant plants at the roots of this fence.  At the moment it has been suggested that spring bulbs and herbs would be best.  The Eco Committee will make the final decision about this.

We are looking forward to finding out how our cheerleading team do following their competition tomorrow evening.  They have been working very hard and their display is very impressive.  You will have an opportunity to see them perform next term.
