Gingerbread Men

On Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th, Reception baked some gingerbread men and decorated them. In literacy we have been talking about our favourite stories and our focus text example has been ‘The Gingerbread Man’. The children used their number knowledge when counting out spoonful’s of ingredients and identifying numerals on the scales.

The children washed their hands and rolled up their sleeves before baking. They worked together and were very patient waiting for their turn to weigh out ingredients and then mix them together in the bowl. The children identified how the mixture changed from ingredients to a dough mix. They rolled out the dough before using a gingerbread man cutter to cut out their gingerbread men.

After the gingerbread men were baked, the children chose five smarties to decorate their gingerbread men using icing. They chose whether to use them for eyes, mouths, and buttons. This was lots of fun!
