Using harvested willow from the willow tunnel in the school grounds, we chose a withy to whittle.
We learnt a safe whittling technique with a peeler to remove the bark of the withy.
Afterwards we cut the length of wand using a pair of loppers.
Later we customised our wands by decorating them with wool, feathers and coloured the exposed layer of inner wood (cambium) with felt pens. We put them on display at open evening for visitors to see.
