Reception had a special visit from Jenny who completed a Chinese Workshop with us. Jenny shared a Chinese New Year story with the class before teaching the children how to say hello in Chinese and Happy New Year in Chinese.
The children shared their knowledge with Jenny and explained that this year is the Year of the Horse. The children now know that red and yellow are known as lucky colours for Chinese New Year and houses are decorated with these colours with lucky signs put on the front door.
The children made lanterns, dancing dragons, noise makers and, practised copying some Chinese writing. This was a lot of fun!
“I made a noise maker to get the bad luck to go away” Miles.
“I made a lantern and decorated it for Chinese New Year” Jeevan.
“I was born in the year of the rat” Marlowe.
“It’s the year of the horse” Evie.
