Making a gravel garden

During Forest school session some of the children helped to create a gravel garden for plants that can cope with hotter temperatures and less water.

Firstly, we removed the mint from around the raised bed and put on a layer of cardboard and a black cover laid on it to stop plants underneath from growing.  We then added some soil for the plants to grow in but not too much.  Then a layer of small pea sized gravel. And finally the large stones and rocks.  We will plant the succulents and alpines at the end of term.
