In D&T we have been learning about structures. We began by looking at different structures such as the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, the CN Tower and Big Ben and explored different materials to see what would be best to make our own structure. We thought about stability and how we can make a structure stable. We learnt that it needs to have a wide, flat base. We then started to think about bridges, particularly drawbridges. We watched videos to show us how drawbridges work and then, working in pairs, created our own pulley leaver using cups and string. Our final activity required us to use everything that we had learnt and work in teams to create our own drawbridges that were able to open and close, hold a car and stand on their own.
