Celtic Harmony

Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed their time at Celtic Harmony being pre-historic farmers for the day.

First they made wool and used it on the weaving loom to make clothes for the Iron Age people. Then they ground wheat into flour using a quern stone and sieve.  Then added water to the flour turning it into bread. The Iron Age children used to make bread for the whole tribe – if there was not enough bread they would go hungry! Next the children made a torc bracelet by twisting a piece of string and dying it in natural colours from plants. Finally, Year 3 made a vegetable stew from plants and herbs growing in the area. It smelt delicious!

An extra … Year 3 recently learnt about Stone Age cave art and produced a piece themselves in class so we visited the replica Lascaux Cave at Celtic Harmony.
