At the beginning of the autumn term, we went on a whole school trip to Hatfield House. This linked with our learning around the book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. Whilst walking around the grounds of Hatfield House, we completed a scavenger hunt, looking for different types of trees, animals and natural materials. We walked down to the lake and sat quietly for a few minutes thinking about what we could see, hear, smell, taste and touch. We then did some descriptive writing about this setting and thought about how Max might have felt being somewhere similar to this. After lunch we went into a woodland area and thought more carefully about what the wild things in the book look like. We then created our own ‘wild things’ picture using natural materials. Back at school we were able to use our experiences here to help us relate to Max in the story and produce some fantastic writing.
