The Tin Forest, Litter Pick and School Survey

Over the last three weeks we have been looking at the story The Tin Forest by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson. We spent time making predictions about how the story will progress and what the man might be dreaming of. We used our inferencing skills to describe the character of the old man and used thesauruses to develop our vocabulary in order to accurately describe how his feelings change through-out the story.

The old man in the story is surrounded by other people’s rubbish, we asked if this happens in real life. We watched news clips about the problem of littering and fly tipping and how it has continued to be a local, national and global issue. We wanted to make a difference so organised a litter pick around our local area. Some of us wrote poems and made posters to try and make people put their rubbish in the bin.
