Outdoor and Adventure Week

Outdoor and Adventure Week

Recently we had outdoor and adventure week. So this is when we do lots of our work and lessons outside. We have a fun time doing different activities, new ones and ones we have done before. In this picture we did a new activity, called whittling when you have a tool just like a potato peeler which you use to peel off the skin of the willow to make your own wands or swords. There were some rules that we had to do so you don’t hurt or injure yourself. For example, always peel away from your body. You can either stand up your stick and go downwards or hold over your legs. Your legs must be protected all the time.

After we had all made our willow wands and swords we got to design them with some special felt tips. Some people decided to make them a nice rainbow pattern but some made them into Harry Potter wands and even police batons. In this picture you can see people designing their willow.

Every year in outdoor and adventure week you get a go at having a roasted marshmallow and Year 4 made a bannock each which had chocolate chips in it. Most children found it very filling and yummy but some found them disgusting. There were also some rules for this as well. Number 1 if you are walking always walk on the outside and when you come up to the fire that is the only time you walk inside the circle.

We made dens in outdoor and adventure week but there was a twist we did have to pay for the materials we needed. If we ever ran out of money all we had to do is a job like litter picking. After all are hard work making the dens we got an ice pop each to cool us down. We can’t wait till the next one!!!
